The right way to make mistakes

Have you ever thought, why children do everything without any hesitation at an early age? Why they are so profound in exploring new things? The only reason is, they are unaware of the word ‘mistake’. They don’t know that putting a finger in switch will cause an electric shock or everything is not to put in your mouth. While growing up, their minds are stuffed with right and wrong things by their parents, and then they start feeling reluctant to do anything. With time, fear of making mistakes turns out to be a scary ghost in their minds, and they stop trying new things.

You make many mistakes in your life. As a human, you can’t be perfect. But you always have options after committing any blunder. Either you have to ‘own that mistake and find the root cause’ or ‘let it demoralize you and end up your efforts’. Making mistakes sounds terrible, but the way we think about them can be key to future learning.

Here are some tips to fix your mistakes in the right way: 1. Acknowledge your fault Never blame others for what went wrong. If you messed up, accept it and try to find out the way to turn it into right. To solve the riddle, it's important to think that this happened just because of you, and now you are the only who can solve this. Moreover, admitting mistakes earns you the respect of those you lead and makes you more confident.

2. Talk it out When you make a really big mistake, don’t feel like you have to cope with it on your own. Talk to your friends and family about your problem and ask for some suggestions. You will surely find out something helpful, or at least you will be encouraged enough to face the situation.

3. Offer ways to fix the problem The next step is to figure out what had happened and offer all the possible solutions and data to diagnose the problem completely. Be upfront and communicate any insights you have that could help. It’s an opportunity to reframe the problem. It doesn’t mean that you should make excuses about why it happened. Rather, explain in a non-defensive way what led you to make a mistake and why?

4. Don’t minimize the damage or seriousness To apprehend the problem completely, you should know about the total loss which has been done. You can’t suggest a proper remedy without knowing what you have to recover. Consider every bit of damage and work accordingly.

5. Learn from your mistake Failure is important in many ways, but that doesn’t mean to repeat the same mistake over and over. Take your time and analyze the error. Think about what did you expect and what actually happened? Where are you lacking? Think about the bigger lesson. Take some constructive actions to ensure that mistake will not happen again.
